As a Missouri taxpayer, I assumed the money I provide to our state was for our state. Wrong. Over $2 million, of an eventual $10 million, is being used to send Missouri National Guard and state troopers to Texas to prevent migrants from pouring across the southern U.S. border. Heading directly, I assume, to Missouri. (“Missouri Senate sends National Guard border spending measure to governor,” April 18.)
Gov. Mike Parson and his allies claim that we are all border states. Well, only to the states that we actually border — at least that’s what I thought until I read that Florida, Idaho, Iowa and Wyoming (among 14 other states) also consider themselves contiguous to Texas.
So all the whining and moaning about the dearth of law and order in Missouri is not the actual problem. It is paying for troops and police for Texas that we should be concerned with. Giving $10 million of our tax dollars to Texas is the least we can do for MAGA-generated issues. So how much should Parson offer to pay for Trump’s Air Force One fuel costs?
