YouTube: Looking back at one of the best catches in the history of Busch Stadium II

  • 0
On April 26, 1989, Kevin Mitchell of the Giants made one of the most unusual plays in the history of Busch Stadium II.

In the first, Mitchell went racing into foul territory for a towering drive down the line by Ozzie Smith. He went too far, and the wind seemed to bring the ball back toward the foul line. Mitchell, originally a third baseman, reached back with his bare hand and made the catch.

"I was running as hard as I could," Mitchell said after the game, a 3-1 win over the Cardinals, "and the ball came back on me. All I could do was stick out by hand, and there it was. It was a football instinct."
